The Market Hall of Rotterdam
The Market Hall is a horseshoe-shaped building in the city centre of Rotterdam. On the market floor, you’ll find food outlets, restaurants, and specialty shops. Its ceiling is covered with the world’s largest artwork, Horn of Plenty, created by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Inside the arch are 228 apartments, while beneath the building there is a large parking facility. The Market Hall is open all week except on public holidays. Opening hours are Monday to Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00, Friday from 10:00 to 21:00, and Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00. Restrooms are located one level down.
During construction, the foundations of one of Rotterdam’s earliest houses, dating back to around the year 1000, were discovered. A reconstruction of this Rotta House can be seen at Masamuda in Vlaardingen, several small archaeological findings are on display in the Market Hall stairwell and parking area.
